The NakataConnection

Ron and Sue Nakata are having Uncle Mo and Auntie Sa's old house torn down. Some of you may have memories of playing or visiting there. Here are some pictures and notes from Ron: "The contractor who is applying for demo permits said the house was entered into the city records back in 1926. And, I recall Mom and Dad saying that it was originally a berry shed. The supposedly fixed the building up after their return from the war/camp after getting married. There was no running water. It had to be hand-dipped out of the well next to the northwest corner of the house. The house was added onto several times as the family grew to 4 boys. After the new house was built in 1962, Dad rented it out to several different families. Sue, Bonnie and I moved back into the old house around 1973 before Eddie was born. We stayed there until we bought a house on Grow Avenue next to Frank Kitamoto’s dentist office in 1982. At some point Dad gave us the old house, so we started taking over as landlords. The last to live there was Margaret Clark, an employee of T&C Market. Once she left, the house was too dilapidated to rent out anymore, so it has remained vacant since the late 1990s."
