August 19, 2006 Service For Kenneth S Nakata Ken went home peacefully to be with the Lord on August 9, 2006 while surrounded by his loving family. Ken was born on Bainbridge Island to Jitsuzo and Shima Nakata and was one of 10 siblings. The family was sent to the internment camp at Manzanar, California in 1942 during World War II. He graduated there in 1944, returned to Seattle in 1946 and married Yoshi Kitayama in 1950. He served in the army during WWII and the Korean War. He was employed at the Bainbridge Town & Country Thriftway grocery store for 34 years and retired in 1991. He was an active member of Bainbridge First Baptist Church. Ken enjoyed golfing, hunting, traveling with his RV, gardening, grandchildren, family gatherings and mowing the church lawn. He was a deeply loving man and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 55 years and seven children: Glen (Gail); Gene; Jan; Leslie (Don); Karen; Cheryl (Aaron); Irene (Curt); grandchildren Alison, Megan, Davis and Julia; brother Gerald of Bainbridge; sister Yoshie Iwasa of Los Angeles and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven. Remembrances may be made to Bainbridge First Baptist Church, Bainbridge Island Fire Department or the Messenger House Care Center in lieu of flowers.
